Audio decoding fails on some video container formats
Closed, ResolvedPublic

System Information
Windows 7 X64, AMD Radeon HD 5800

Blender Version
Broken: Blender 2.71 (Hash 9337574)
Worked: Blender 2.70 (Hash 19e627c)

Short description of error
Audio in some video container formats is not properly decoded, resulting in silence during editing (and also rendering) when using the video sequence editor. The failure pertains to MP4 files in my testing; the audio codec is reported by gspot as "mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC".

Other container formats do work; wmv is properly decoded, for example.

My test video was encoded by Lumia 1020 video camera app.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Import a MP4 file as a pair of strips (audio and video) to the video sequence editor, and observe silence. Rendered audio is also silent.

This is a bug in FFmpeg-2.1.4, fixed in 2.1.5. We'll need update FFmpeg used by blender in order to fix this. It'll take some time for platform maintainers.

Ok. 2.70 will work fine until then.

We've updated FFmpeg for all platforms now. Please try using recent builds from

Audio decoding works now on build with hash 2366043 (Win/64 bit).
