Linux Mint 14 Graphic Card: Geforce660Ti

Hi,
The render layer disappears in OpenEXRMultiLayer file when you combine two layers from a OpenEXRMultiLayer file and save it as an OpenEXRMultiLayer file.
The result is OK when you add a RenderLayer even if the render layer is not connected to the composite.

To reproduce it:
open the .blend file joined, F12 then Image/Save a copy >KO (you can see the result in the image not connected)
open the .blend file joined, add a render layer (RL1 for instance), F12 then Image/Save a copy >OK

The results image when you add a render layer seems to be:

for the composite, the result expected (combination of the OpenEXRMultiLayer layers)
for the layer, the active render layer of the scene...

So as I understand:

  • when you add a render layer it is KO and it may be the real but very minor bug (you don't need to use the individual layer),
  • when you don't add a render layer, you have only the the combination but it is normal.

What I wanted to do initially is to combine 2 EXR layer in one OpenEXR Multi layer file, as I understand there is not such an automatic functionality today (you can use 'File Output' node, but you will have to create a lot of inputs manually for each pass and then combine the passes from the two EXR layer).

There is no bug here… If you do a compositing without any render layer, then scene itself is never rendered, and renderlayers remain empty in final multilayer EXR, that’s to be expected. Thanks for the report anyway.
