While using vertex slide via SHIFT+V or G, G, the snap options are ignored. Holding CTRL while sliding activates snap but appears to be only "grid" snap, no matter what snap setting is selected.

Example scenario (see attached image):

  • Create a plane, rotated randomly
  • Edit mode
  • Add two vertices, random locations on either side of the plane
  • Connect them with an edge so that the edge passes through the plane
  • Subdivide the edge (now total of three vertices on the segment)
  • Select middle vertex and slide along the edge
  • Hold CTRL while sliding and vertex will "step" along the edge, but will not snap according to snap settings

It would be incredibly useful if snap-to-face, etc, was available while sliding a vertex. Yes, there are workarounds, but they are convoluted and being able to simply snap while sliding would save a great deal of time.

The workarounds I've seen suggested in various places:

  • Use booleans to find the intersection. Requires splitting mesh into two separate meshes, adding boolean modifier, repairing geometry generated by boolean...
  • Use a custom axis (CTRL+ALT+SPACE) to generate a z-axis along the face's normal, then use standard move (G) constrained to that Z axis (Z, Z), then use snap-to-face (hold CTRL)... this works but is still much more time consuming than it would be to just have the snap feature work while sliding.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the tracker is not here for feature requests.

To me, it is a bug, but I guess "bug" is a subjective term. It seems unlikely that "snap" being broken during vertex slide is an intentional feature.
