Hi,

I've found an inconsistency in the Blender file manager. When I am in a directory with other folders in it, I see an arrow that allows me to move up (Circled in red below).
Capture_1.PNG
When I navigate into a directory with no other folders in it, this button disappears(see below), and Blender forces me to move my mouse to the left and select a different button that accomplishes the same task(see below, green).
Capture_2.PNG

This is somewhat inconvenient and it is inconsistent. This is something I think should be fixed.

Sincerely,

Levi Strzepek

Must be a windows-only bug, on Linux the ".." item never goes away

Tested this on Windows both 32 and 64 bit - I don't get the same issue with the up arrow going away (2.71.3 for both). The .. is always there.

What version did this happen on?

After more investigating, I found the bug. This happens when blender follows a shortcut. Under "C:\Users\Kevin\Documents" is a shortcut called "My Pictures" which takes you to "C:\Users\Kevin\My Pictures". When I open the shortcut in blender, it's blank.

For clarity: Do we want up to to move you back one directory or up one directory in this case ?

I think it's up a directory, right?

Well, I think the problem is that it's not following the windows library shortcut properly.. So even if you add an "Up" button, the files that are in that library location are missing. I spent some time (30 minutes?) looking for how to distinguish those folders in windows and came up with nothing.

Ideal behavior is that when you click on the "My Pictures" link, it takes you to "My Pictures", rather than an empty directory with just an "up" arrow with two dots. (..)

Confirmed, and its not with any directory, seems it only happens with windows links.

Creating a new empty directory works as expected - only Dirs such as My Documents fail.
