FBX importer only supports ASCII. Binary is required too #42104

hello. With the new Blender 2.72, FBX importer got improved: FBX improvements: Import now supports armatures, shapekeys, animations, with shapekeys also being supported for export.

still, when importing fbx ASCII, Blender gets an error of 'not supporting'. Any chance of resolving that?

some software only export ASCII FBX (like Sketchup), so there is nothing to do with it in order to import in blender.

Thanks for the suggestion, but our tracker is for bug reports, not feature requests.

And we do not intend to support ascii import, AD provides a converter for those who really need to read ascii files (why would any one produce such files anyway?). And we already said it tens of times in tens of different subjects: AD FBXSDK is not an option for us. Not at all, for many different reasons (multi-platform support, non free, not even redistributable by us, etc. etc.).
