Short description of error

Attempting to join two vertices with J as shown here causes blender to freeze and memory usage to spike until blender is killed.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open the blend file from this SE post: http://blender.stackexchange.com/q/18565/599
  2. Delete the existing edge between the vertices selected in the above screenshot
  3. With those vertices selected, press J

@Campbell Barton (campbellbarton), if following the method two in my answer here, J also crashes blender with the lastest build after the commit. Would you please confirm this, too?
