Blender Version
Broken: c7eefb

Not sure if I can report this here but doing a quick search looks like animation for FBX was working before. I'm trying to export a simple animation from Maya 2014 so I can bring into Blender to continue working in Blender. At this rate we my have to drop blender out of the pipeline and I dont want that D=

In this FBX, there's a simple animation of a cube moving left to right. It is baked down to every keyframe which is about 24 key frames. I've exported it out with Maya with different versions:
CubeMove-Maya2011.fbx
CubeMove-Maya2012.fbx
CubeMove-Maya2013.fbx
CubeMove-Maya2014.fbx

I've tested that the animation works by reimporting into maya for all versions. When importing into Blender, the model imports, but there is no animation.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Import the above FBX with the default values.

Note: If you want to test the animation to see if it works for yourself, you can open it up in Unity Free.
(Instructions to test out animation in Unity 3D)

  • Create a new Project
  • Drag the files into the Assets
  • Click on one and Press Play in the Inspector.
  • You should see it animate by moving.

I've tested it out for all the animations and they work in Unity.

I apologize if this is a known issue, but my team has always been skeptical of Blender while I've always tried to push Blender into production. I finally get a chance, but I cant get the FBX to import animation! As you'd imagine it puts me in a very difficult position!

I meant to put in c77eefb for the Blender version I'm using.

Thanks for the report, but imported actions are not currently automatically linked to relevant data by the importer (just updated status page about that), so you have to link them by hand.

To do this automatically, at least in simple cases, is on my TODO list, but this is not considered a bug currently.
