Video Editor - "Image Crop" does stretch the image if "Image Offset" is unchecked
Closed, InvalidPublic

Win 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 6850

Blender Version
Broken: 2.72b

"Image Crop" does stretch the image if "Image Offset" is unchecked.

Go to Video Sequence Editor and add an Image Strip to it.
In the Panel on the right side check the checkbox "Image Crop" and do some changes to the crop values.
On my PC the Image Preview starts to stretch then, rather then to be cropped.
Only if the above "Image Offset" checkbox also is checked, "Image Crop" works in the expected manner.

This looks like intended behaviour. Generally offset is done in the source image space and so enforces image space calculation as well. But someone may know better here, maybe @Sergey Sharybin (sergey) ?

By design sequencer stretches images to fit into the final frame, so it kind of allows you to cut uninteresting parts of the image and put the interesting ones to the full frame. Offset doesn't make sense to stretch, plus as was mentioned above it operates in an origin space.

It could be changed, but id rather see some more global sequencer reconsideration because changing behavior of just of thing would only lead to compatibility breakages.

Antony Riakiotakis (psy-fi) claimed this task.

Alright then, closing. Someone should start this discussion on bf-developers of bf-vfx mailing list if they want the behaviour to change.
