Problem with copying a shape key #43134

In Blender 2.7, there seems to be a problem with copying a shape key. The copied key does the negative of the original key.

I first establish a basis shape key, then Key 1.

Next I edit an object in Key 1, then add a Key 2. In order to make Key 2 do the same distortion as Key 1, I go to the box below “blend” and identify Key 1 as the “shape used as a relative key”,

Then when I change the value of Key 2, I get the negative of the effect of Key 1. Looks like there’s a minus sign that shows up when I try to copy key 1 to Key 2.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

I'm not really sure what you consider issue here? Your Key2 indeed has cavities on the cheeks relative to Key1. That's why increasing influence of Key2 leads to increased cavities.

For now it doesn't seem to be a bug here, but how things are designed to work. Thanks for the report, but seems nothing to fix here. Unless i misunderstood you issue (in that case please send here your concerns).

I agree with @Sergey, that was exactly the same thought I had. Shapekeys are sometimes a bit complicated but for me this looks fine.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I was trying to duplicate a shape Key, following the directions in http://cgcookie.com/blender/lessons/creating-an-advanced-face-rig-part-one/
The video referenced Blender 2.6, and 2.7 has changed that part of the program.

The clicks I used to supposedly copy a shape key came up with a negative of the shape key I was trying to copy.

Guess I still don’t know how to copy a shape key in Blender 2.7.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks again,
Tom Palmieri

To copy a shape key just select it, pin it (the little pin under the shapekey list) then in the arrow ander the plus and minus, select (new shape from mix)
changing the basis shape is not copying a key, it is telling blender to 'blend from that shape as if it was the basis' which is why a default shapekey looks negative.
