Slowdown in wireframe view #44103

Blender Version
Broken: 2.73, 2.73a 2.74RC - bf official builds no custom scripts
Worked: 2.72 bf official build no custom scripts

Short description of error
The cpu/gpu usage is on the top and the application almost freezes but not crashes when I try to switch from Solid Display to Wireframe Display when I have over 100 000 verts in the scene.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Sadly the scene I used is not public yet, (product development), but I just imported it as obj, cleaned the geometry in Blender 2.49b (a lot of plugins are not working on the new branch...) and tried to take a closer look on some details. Switched to Wireframe view and the radical slowdown happened. My whole system "feels it". I know it's a weak GPU but never had such a problem with that amount of vertex number.

I just made a simple sphere over 100k vertexes and produces the same.

I just tried to open the stanford dragin in wireframe view and on the new versions only the "killall -9 blender" helped to restore my systems normal state.

Verts: 475 545
Faces: 871 306
Tris: 871 306
memory: 144.79M

Smoothly viewable, editable with 2.72

Can't recreate that here (using 3000k vets). But I'd bet it's the Intel card causing the slowdown. Could you check if there are any driver updates available for your card? (and test with them if so)
