grid interferes with the displaying of contour lines of a selection #44232

System Information
Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit
AMD Radeon HD 6630M

Blender Version
Broken: release 2.74 ( 000dfc0)

Worked: release 2.73a

Short description of error
Parts of the contour line of the active object aren’t fully displayed in Object Mode when they overlay with the grid beneath in 3d View. In the previous release the Grid could only obscure selection contours which lay under it.

2.73a

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

• default cube scene
• Make sure the viewport writes “User ” or “Camera ” and “Orto” or “Persp” in the upper left corner
• Make sure Solid Shading is enabled
• Move the default cube carefully until the white contour which marks the cube as being transformed appears exactly above one of the lines of the grid.
• The contour gets obscured by the grid at a point which is in front of the grid.
• When applying the transformation the contour becomes orange but is still displayed incorrectly

This happens due to the recent changes in the viewport code to enable compositing (more here ). Of course there are ways to work around this, but since this isn't a big issue and not preventing anyone from working I think it's not really worth the hassle (and afaik these hassles will be quite big). The viewport project is ongoing anyway, so this is already being tackled using a much better and broader approach.

So thanks for the report, but I don't really see a need to fix this.
