Particle system - navigating to frame will not update the particles properly #45667

System Information
Any - reproduced on Windows and Linux

Blender Version
Broken: 2.75, 2.74, probably previous as well
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
On a particle system, if baked, but not navigated through, the particles will not be saved properly and navigating directly to a frame will show the particles in the wrong order, or just show them randomly.anima_logo_baked1.blend

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open the attached file, navigate to frame 199
  2. look at the bottom-left part of the particles
  3. navigate two frames back using the arrows, two of the planes there will disappear
  4. navigate again to frame 199 using the arrows. The planes will not appear as they were in step 2 above

Hey @sorinv, the planes disappear because they move behind the background plane. You can try tweaking your particle settings to avoid this.
You might want to ask in a forum like blender stack exchange , to get more help on getting rid of this glitch.

Thanks for the report nevertheless.

Thanks for sending this update.

The report however is not about the planes disappearing, but about the inconsistent behavior or Blender. If you navigate directly to the frame, by typing the frame number in the timeline, you get a different particle placement than what you get when you navigate frame by frame.

This kind of inconsistency makes these files not usable with render farms, where the frame is set by script or command line rather than being navigated frame by frame.

Let me know if you need more details for understanding this bug report.

Thanks,
Sorin
