Changing curve radius of first point in a curve scales an entire mesh that is parented to that curve #45675

System Information
Windows 7 Professional, NVIDIA Quadro 1000m

Blender Version
Broken: 2.75 c6b042b
Worked: (N/A)

Short description of error

When a mesh object is parented to a curve that is used to curve modify that mesh, changing the first point's curve radius scales the entire mesh rather than a specific area. This behavior doesn't happen in non-parented meshes.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

http://www.pasteall.org/blend/37433

  1. Open the blend file

  2. Note the behavior in the first two meshes in which the second point's curve radius has been scaled. They are the same in result and the first mesh is not parented while the second mesh is.

  3. Note the behavior of the last two meshes in which the first point's curve radius has been scaled. They are different in result and the first mesh is not parented while the second mesh is. Scale the second curve's first point's radius (it is selected in the blend) and you will see that it affects the entire mesh rather than a localized area. This does not happen when the mesh is not parented to the curve.

Hi, this is rather confusing but whats happening is the curve has path animation enabled.

This means that the parent relationship with the curve (and the paths evaluation time) will scale the object.

Having the modifier just made this example quite confusing.

Solution here is just to disable path animation. (or un-parent the mesh from the curve works too).
