Hmm… does it crash if you type["opensubdiv_compute_type"].enum_items[:] and enter in the python console (without opening the user preferences at all)? And do you know on which panel of user preferences you are when opening it?

Also, please:

  • Ensure both your OS and drivers are fully up-to-date.
  • Ensure your GPU driver supports at least OpenGL 1.4.
  • Try to start Blender in factory settings (--factory-startup commandline option) (this will ensure whether this is a userpref or addon issue or not).
  • Try to start in software OpenGL mode (use the blender-softwaregl distributed with official blender, will be slow, but will show whether this is a driver issue or not).
  • Try to tweak OGL settings in UserPreferences, System tab.
  • Attach as text file here the report generated by Help -> System Info (¡¡¡DO NOT paste it directly in comment!!!).
  • Launch Blender from the command line with -d option and attach as text file here any error printed out in the console (¡¡¡DO NOT paste it directly in comment!!!).
  1. well, no it does not crash, just reports no opensubdiv types:["opensubdiv_compute_type"].enum_items[:]

[<bpy_struct, EnumPropertyItem("NONE")>]

I don't know on which panel of user preferences, it crashes before seeing the separate window... I've run it just after extraction from the tar.bz2.

  1. it crashes also with --factory-startup
  1. it does NOT crash with blender-softwaregl (so I can see it is on "editing" tab in this way...)
  1. when running blender-softwaregl, I tried to switch on/off several opengls settings, changed alpha... nothing happened, no crash. I'm not sure my tests are proper, though. I'm not that opengl expert... :)
  1. this is a quite old lenovo laptop, running a linux maya 13 (lts) it doesn't get much system updates... I'll try anyway soon.

here should be the sysinfo txt

Yeah, one more time those infamous Intel 'GPU'… @Antony Riakiotakis (psy-fi) not sure about our minimum OGL required version now, do we still survive with 1.4?

in any case, will move this to our long collection of similar reports… Bug is in drivers, Blender can merely try to work around it - sometimes.
