Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
I've tried to open the User Preference menu, when the box opens it is either blank, or shows the image of the background. Nothing I've done has helped. I am uploading an image of what happens to better explain.

You do not specify your exact intel GPU, but I think it’s a rather old one? This is known bug in their drivers, they do not support well multiple OGL contexts. Things to check (to be sure):

  • Try to start in software OpenGL mode (use the blender-softwaregl distributed with official blender, will be slow, but will show whether this is a driver issue or not).
  • Try the latest build from our buildbot, it should now report an error instead of crashing.
  • Try to open userpreferences by changing the type of an area in main Blender window

You may also try to tweak your graphics from performance to quality or vise versa

@MatthewScott, please take more care reporting bugs, from the initial report:

Broken: (example: 2.69.7 4b206af, see splash screen)
Worked: (optional)

The Worked field should be filled in, and 4b206af is from 2013.
Could you find which was the last version this was working?

Also please attach system-info.txt - https://www.blender.org/manual/troubleshooting/general_help.html#system-info
