Explode modifier makes Cycles not render UV mapped image #46514

Identical to https://developer.blender.org/T31406, was resolved?

OS10.7 and AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB

Broken: 2.76, c586e30

The attached .blend hopefully demonstrates that the UV mapped image on the cube, will not show up unless the Explode modifier is disabled.

If not, then can quickly unwrap a cube on to some image, and set material set with Texture coordinate node also. Observe the texture working in both alt + Z and rendered view. Go object -> quick effects and choose quick explode.

Kind regards

Richard{F245507}

I’m not sure what we are supposed to see with such a big file which does not even embed textures… Please attach a small and simple .blend file demonstrating the issue (and embed need textures).

Cycles_explode.blend
In this file, Cycles is rendering Image Texture used by exploded mesh.
But when Cut Edges option is enabled into explode modifier, texture is no more rendered.
UVs are messed up by modifier. It is not displayed into viewport.
But Blender Internal is able to render such derived geometry with derived UVs and still renders the texture.

Edit: Blender Internal is using parametric texture coordinates.
So, in cycles, you can have same result by using parametric coordinates instead of UVs.

Can confirm had to play with the file a little had to add remove texture

Cutting edges does not preserve UV maps so sure enough using UV mapping in Cycles (and in fact, in any render engine) wouldn't give results expected to you.

Would be nice to have UV maps preserved and interpolated by explosion but it's not really a bug. Moving to the TODO: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Tools#Explode_Modifier

Thanks for the report anyway!
