How to handle text that needs to be inserted in a translation? #47091

While translating about/markup_style_guide it occurred to me,
that I often inserted sentences, which aren't there in the original,
but necessary for a German reader to understand the text.

These could be needed in other translations too,
but would be considered superfluous by an English reader.

For example, the first sentence in about/contribute is clear,
but those reading the translation need to know,
that they are reading a translation and can only contribute by writing English.

Should I add the sentences in the translation or in the original?
Or is there a better solution for this?

I think that these changes should be made in the translations

I think, it is possible to do so.

But then it would be nice to have an "Translation Style Guide",
which explains how such things should be done.

It would also be nice to include empty .rst files for the translators to fill.

  • One in /getting_started could provide an overview over the translation,
  • one in /about for conventions in that language and
  • one in /glossary to explain English terms.
