Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

System Information
Linux Mint 17.2 - Asus Nvidia 750 Ti oc current drivers.

blender-2.77-rc1-linux-glibc211-x86_64 Hash: b594b25

Short description of error

Import from pre cached VDB from Houdini is not possible..

Loading of vdbs from Blender inside Houdini are possible but when, i tried to import the vdbs from file - blender closes without any message.

i followed closely to the tutorials of exporting vdb sequences from houdini tried different approaches. but everytime blender closes without error.

https://support.solidangle.com/display/AFHUG/Writing+Volumes+To+VDB -> thats one of the used tutorials.

A VDB Function without import functionality is useless. Houdini produces the best Smoke simulations on the market a import function is most important!!!

This is not a bug, but a feature request. Currently, OpenVDB support in Blender is for caching the result of Blender's smoke simulator and only that.

i cannot believe it.... For what an vdb cache when translation between packages is not possible that i cannot believe this.. i hope that was planned as a substep for a planned import functionality, if not it would be insane. Sorry to say...

VDB is a MUST!!
blender will always remain a tool for hobbyists unless we add these basic industry standard tools
