This smoke domain is using OpenVDB as the cache file format, does using Point Cache make a difference?
Are there any errors in Window > Toggle System Console, and if so what are they?
If there are no errors, can your run Blender from the command line, with
blender --debug-gpu
, try doing the smoke simulation, and attach the output in the console?Added subscriber: @ThomasDinges
Also make sure, you use the latest GPU driver for the Intel HD 3000.
I changed the cache format to Point Cache but it doesn't work neither.
I tried to run blender from the command line and this is the console output
I didn't mentón that the smoke domain looks completely black in the viewport, and this just happen in the 2.77 version, in the 2.76 works fine
Added subscriber: @mib2berlin
Hi, checking your test .blend I can confirm black domain on:
Opensuse Tumblweed x86_64
Blender 2.77 RC2
CPU Intel #4200
GPU Intel GN 965
renderer: 'Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM '
OpenGL:
vendor: 'Intel Open Source Technology Center'
version: '2.1 Mesa 11.1.2'
But not on:
Windows 10 Pro /64
Blender 2.77 RC2
Intel i5-4200U
Intel HD 4400
OpenGL: 4.3
Please add your system-info.txt from Help menu.
Attach the .txt, don´t paste whole text here, please.
I don't have my other computer from I reported the bug right now, however in this computer the issue is the same, smoke works in 2.76 but not in 2.77.
Here's the system info: system-info.txt

I have 3 computers and 2 laptops that have this same problem I have running on 2 computers blender hash
ed22ab3
without the problem with solid black smoke.I am going to try to send system info it is for the computer that is not working if the upload works and you like I can send the system info from the working computer.I am not sure when after hash
ed22ab3
it stopped working.system-info.txt.Nightlys on same computer with hash
ed22ab3
do not work. Here's the system info of my other computer: system-info.txt
All have the "Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Desktop" in common. Did something change for this, and I tried
ed22ab3
on all computers it does not work on all.ok sorry it took so long had to learn a lot about git, narrowed it down --

I'm not sure why this happens, because I cannot reproduce this here (linux 64, GeForce GTX 650), but it seems to be an issue with Intel cards, if I follow the discussion and the system infos being posted right.
You are right about it being an issue with intel cards (at least for me). After I installed the new version it set the intel card as default for blender, I have changed now so it always runs on the geforce and now it works in the viewport as well.
I can't see any suspicious change in that committed you narrowed it down to, it doesn't seems to use any other OpenGL features compared to what it was using before.
I would hope there is some kind of error message. The log in comment #47697#362324 seems to be from running with
--debug
, not--debug-gpu
, so it would be good to get that log.If any developer can reproduce this bug, it would be helpful if they could narrow what exactly in
82049cb
is causing the problem, it's not a big change.Ok I can not say i understand any of this
the debug reports with crossbytes in title are the ones with the commit reverted the others are the latest git pull compiled on my computer..
the one thing i did notice running a diff program is the one without the reverted commit has the line
at line 154 in the --all ;and the reverted one does not.. like I said I do not understand sorry I can not help more.
and of course that line may have nothing to do with it at all.. anything else I can do let me know.. oh yes

@AlexanderWhite:
I checked system-info.txt which you attached, but Graphics driver which you use thinks that it is old.
I think that you should download it from this Intel site.
Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8-64-bit (2nd Generation)
Though your OS is 64bits, why do you use Blender for 32Bits?
Added subscriber: @alejandro-7
I can not answer for @alejandro-7 Torres (Al_Torres) but I know that I was running the latest available drivers for my OS Fedora.., and even tried updating using Intel Graphics Installer for Linux* 1.4.0 from the Intel Site https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads To make sure drivers were all up to date, I have even reinstalled OS as Bios instead of EFI since I knew that in the past there were problems with drivers working correctly in EFI installs [ not sure of which OS or all ] so I reinstalled My os , nothing seems to work except reverting the commit. Does not mean that the problem is with the commit could be just showing up because of the commit.
@sindra1961 I tried to use the 32bits version to see if that version could work, but it doesn't
@AlexanderWhite:
I see.
Graphics driver which you use is 9.17.10.3347/8.15.10.1883, but the latest edition that Intel provides is 9.17.10.4229.
I suggest that you try it again in latest driver.
I don't think it's a driver's problem. Mac users have the same problem on the latest OSX. I was having the same problem with Houdini 14 which was an OpenGL problem, but then they fixed it in the new version
I cannot confirm the issue on Ubuntu 15.10, running on two systems with:
renderer: 'Mesa DRI Intel(R) Skylake ULT GT2 '
vendor: 'Intel Open Source Technology Center'
version: '3.0 Mesa 11.0.2'
