Smoke sampling difference on GPU. #47777

W7 FX220(screen) GTX 970(rendering)

Worked: new feature "smoke on GPU"

I get a weird difference in rendering smoke switching from CPU to GPU. It seems that GPU needs much more samples/pixel to get rid of noise resulting in longer rendering times greatly exceeding CPU rendertimes. I would expect the other way around.

See Pictures for result and sample settings.
The only difference in settings is switching CPU to GPU and the tile size being 1616 on CPU and 256256 on GPU (tilesize only affects rendertimes). The rendertime of the GPU is half of the CPU but the noise on the GPU is realy bad compared to CPU. I would expect exact same result.

CPU uses Decoupled Ray Marching and improved sampling (Equi-Angular). That code is not ported to GPU yet. It's a todo.
