Lib: Object Lost from scene: 'Scene' #48577

System Information
Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.4
GeForce GTX 960

Blender Version
Broken: 2.77a abf6f08

Short description of error
Blender lost my character object

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I was modeling a character, I rigged it, but I needed to improve the mesh after rigging. Then I started to configure the materials. To be easier, I created Vertex Groups, to select easily and apply materials. Before quitting, I've hidden the Armature.
Another day, when I've opened the file, I got the error "Lib: Object lost from scene: 'Scene'". The last thing I was doing is applying material by vertex groups.
Is there any way to recover the object or I have to start it again? I was almost finishing my work.

Library data may be lost when you rename it in another file. If you correct the name in the file which you referenced, library data will load again.

However this is more a user support question, suggest to ask on http://blender.stackexchange.com

I want to mention that I have lost one of my test files exactly the same way a couple of days ago when I was testing a new build for errors. There was nothing in that file except one simple plane, a lamp and a camera, when I re-saved that file in order to move to another computer, its filesize expanded from its usual 480 Kb to something like 1.5 Mb and when I re-opened it, the plane was absent and the same "Lib: Object lost from scene: 'Scene'" message was on top of the screen. There were no linked libraries in that file and nothing was imported.

I didn't renamed the file. I think it should be investigated, like Alex, object was removed from scene automatically.

I confirm that I too lost a mesh with the LIB ERROR: object lost from scene message, without having done any linking of anything from other files!

The mesh I lost was still in the file, and I was able to recover it as explained here: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/78200/lib-error-object-lost-from-scene-error-when-opening-file.

I upload the offending file, in case the developers want to take a look.TUNNEL ARRAY1 = object lost from scene.blend

Your file shows that the object is missing from it. So technically it's corrupted. There is nothing we can do without having a way to reproduce this. I'll close for now, but if you can reproduce this from scratch with reliable steps we can re-open it, or report it as a new report.

That said, a lot of this code changed in master. So whatever caused the problem may have already been addressed. Thanks for the report.
