Blender 2.77a hangs when a lot of vertices are selected in "Separate By Loose Parts" #49132

Short description of error
When Separate By loose parts is run on a mesh Blender hangs and will sometimes use all threads, depending on the mesh.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the blend file, select one of the meshes and go into edit mode. select all of the vertices, then press P and select By loose parts. Blender should now freeze and use up some of your cores, depending on which mesh you choose.

I have been on the verge of reporting a bug, which I think may be connected to this one. I have had numerous hangs while in edge select mode. 3D view locking up. To free it up I have found that clicking one of the buttons in the header bar wakes it up again.
If this is of any help.

Thanks for the report, but no real bug here, more like known limitation. You are trying to create over 20k objects when 'separating by lose parts' that mesh - Blender will take a long time to do so, it does not support very well that amount of objects (even worth when they all have the same starting name…).

Your selection issue shall be reported in a separate task please - but it’s likely related to OpenGL dirver issues (and size of your mesh, again).
