This is the error at the point of failure. Tried the installation repeatedly with all versions.

Can you attach the full stracktraces (as a file) of the crash?

@MartijnBerger, @MikeErwin, any way to test this bug on 10.7? I only have access to 10.11 and there it all works fine.

Please give the full log from the crash here, the simple bugreport always shifts the true culprit.
10.7 should work.
Blindly guessing such crashes on start are most likely from fs_menu.
You could try disable in finder sidebar such as iCloud and "find all my files"
etc..
