"Subdivision Surface Modifier" and "Subdivide Smooth Tool" are producing very different results
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Hi blender devs!

Not very pleased to harass you when you working tightly to make the Blender 2.78 stable, but if you changing Subdivision Surface Modifier nonetheless... can you please add an option to the modifier so it will behave exactly like Subdivide Smooth Tool?

I mean that Subdivision Surface Modifier with Catmull-Clark on shrinks the result so subdivided mesh generally smooths corners of initial mesh (makes adjustments to vertices of initial mesh) while Subdivide Smooth Tool leaves vertices of initial mesh where they are and still gives rounded mesh. I think it would be very nice option to Subdivision Surface Modifier to smooth mesh without altering positions of initial mesh vertices, like Subdivide Smooth Tool does. I personally dreaming about it for quite a few years. And algorithm that do the task already there, in Blender.

And it also looks inconsistent that Subdivision Surface Modifier and Subdivide Smooth Tool are producing such a different results.

Thanks for your attention and sorry for my English!

Thanks for the suggestion, but we do not accept feature requests or suggestions on this tracker (use forums or bf-funboard ML for that).
Please do not create design/todo tasks, they are reserved to developers.

Thanks for the reply. Ok, its understandable. But links to the "forums" or "bf-funboard ML" would be nice thing to share. I created that task because web search for "blender feature request' was very inconclusive.
