Short description of error
Pdf import fails with most pdfs
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
activate the pdf/svg/ai importer from contrib fodler.
Try to import this pdf: test pdf.pdf

I confirm the problem, and will look into it.
The problem appears to be not with a change in the pdf/svg/ai importer (which still works on my test pdf files), but rather that your file uses a PDF feature called 'Cross Reference Streams' (introduced in PDF 1.5) that I did not program for.
For my reference, the pdf spec is here (see section 3.4.7 for cross reference streams)
