Distorted curves when importing SVG #49791

Here's a screenshot. Top part is Inkscape, bottom part is Blender:

Here's that again, showing all the curve points and handles in Blender:

As you can see, Blender SVG importer created more points and gave strange angles to some handles.

Here's the SVG that produces this output after importing int o Blender 2.78:

And here's the Blender project with this curve imported:

Why Blender creates different bezier curves than Inkscape for the same input data?

The spline is created from a font family called "Square". Maybe th distortion comes form the way that font is made, that for some reason makes Blender's SVG importer go a little crazy.
