Video Sequence rendering is not using 100% of the CPU power

Description

When rendering from VSE, Blender seems to be using only one thread, using no more than half of my available CPU time
Could it be possible to parallelize this process to utilize the hardware better?

Blender cannot magically parallelize everything, especially not e.g. codecs code etc. Not to mention than often a lot of time during rendering VSE is lost reading from/writing to disk.
