System Information
rMBP 2013 w/ 16gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, macOS 10.12.4 (16E195)

Blender Version
Broken: blender-2.80.0-git20170420.c7c162e2e0-x86_64

Started trying to DL 2.8 to see the new Disney shader, but so far on my Mac (and apparently a number of other people's), all files opened render blank screens. OpenGL works, but that's it. Primary indication of root cause of issue appears to be that the status area in the menu for Verts, Faces, Tris, Objects and Lamps all list 0 items. In a release 2.78c version, those numbers correspond to actual counts in the file correctly. I am apparently no alone on this as several other Mac users had similar results in this Reddit post from yesterday.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Download nightly 2.8 build.
Launch, open any file (all of which render correctly in 2.78c) and render the scene.
Scene will be blank, regardless of whether Cycles or Blender Internal is chosen.

Fixes tried:

  • Deleted ~/Library/Application Support/Blender/2.8 folder so it could be recreated.
  • Duplicated 2.78 folder to see if known good prefs would help.
  • Tried switching between GPU and CPU rendering modes.system-info.txt

Apologies if I missed that this is known or obvious. First bug report, tried searching, etc first but didn't see anything obviously related to it, and since I saw several other users reporting the same issue I figured better safe than sorry.

Blender 2.8 project is under heavily development, where we currently reworking the whole layering system. Render engines still needs adoptation for the design changes.

For more produciton-ready tests please stick to 2.7x series. Buildbot has latest builds of upcoming 2.79 release (they've got Official status, and still refer 2.78 in the name because version bump only happens at the release stage).

Thanks for the report, but we do not have enough resources to properly triage bugs about 2.8 project in the same way as we are triaghing bugs for official releases. Yet. Stay tuned for 2.8 project becoming ready for master!
