Blender 2.78 crashes when Open Shading Language is turned on

I'm trying to load a background environment texture and also an OSL script to generate the background. First I load the environment texture, then I select "Open Shading Language" and it crashes.

1 Start Blender 2.78
2 Change to Cycles Render
3 In World, select Choose Nodes, which switches to Background
4 Click Color, then Environment Texture
5 Load my texture
6 Change my object view to Cycle Rendered
7 Go to Render panel, select Open Shading Language button

Image goes to checker boarded background. I can't unselect Open Shading Language button. I can't change view modes to wireframe. Blender stops responding.



Event Timeline

I've noticed loading environment textures is incredibly slow with osl enabled, but it doesn't crash, just sits there for a while but eventually it'll get it together and starts rendering...

@Tom (quarkburger) Please check whether Blender keeps working (which it seems to be doing), in the task manager e.g.

Also, please try the latest build from our buildbot, there has been a lot of changes since 2.78 ;)

You're right. It does take a loooong time to process environment textures with osl enabled. I tried this in the latest build of 2.78 btw. Are there plans to speed this up?
