System Information
Operating System

  • Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
    Graphics Card
  • Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000

Blender Version
Broken: 2.78.3

Short description of error
When the bump map is connected to the displacement output, Blender immediately closes itself.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1.Open Blender.
2.Open the Blend File (Earth).
3.Go to the Earth material.
4.Head to the node editor.
5.Open the images.
6. Connect that image to the Displacement output in the Material output node (this also occurs when you put the Bump Map image in the Bump Vector Node first).

Here are the files needed to recreate this bug/error.

  1. Please do not triage tickets your self, we'll change the status to confirmed when we confirmed the problem.
  2. for future posts , if you go to File->External Data->pack into blend, it'll pack the textures into the .blend file so you don't have to post all your textures as attachments. (and we don't have to go out and manually fix a bunch of textures)
  3. I tried 2.78c and the latest from the buildbot at http://builder.blender.org and I can't seem to reproduce the problem, is it crashing while trying to render? or when you are in material view mode? what exactly are you doing when it crashes?

Not related to your problem, but lets have a teachable moment :)

  1. The output of your height texture should go to the Height input of your bump map node, not the strength
4a) The output of a bump node should never go to the displacement socket on material output, while the socket will happily take it, it will never get you the result you want/expect.

The bump image has resolution 21600 x 10800 . That means you are almost certainly running out of memory, either in Cycles rendering or in the OpenGL viewport, and should scale down that image to a lower resolution. Alternatively you can limit the texture resolution in the scene simplify settings for Cycles, and in the user preferences for the OpenGL viewport.
