So, is it a Linux issue then?

not sure, im not a developer, just a user that test and add info to save some dev time.

Joshua Leung (aligorith) triaged this task as Normal priority.

Cannot reproduce here on 65582e7, using Windows 8.1 64-bit (i7-4700MQ).

  • The file on Google Drive already has vertex groups applied, with working weights. How did these come about?
  • There is a slightly longer pause (~700-1000ms) if doing this if all the vertex groups currently on the mesh are deleted. Otherwise, it seems to work well.
  • Are you having problems when using "With Automatic Weights" when the old weights are present, or does it only happen when doing this when no vertex groups exist?
  • Do you still get any hanging if you fix the non-manifold parts of the mesh (e.g. the holes for the eye sockets, by closing those off)?

Unless anyone on Linux/Mac can confirm the problems you're encountering, we're going to have to close this report as there haven't been any major changes in this area recently IIRC.

Bastien Montagne (mont29) lowered the priority of this task from Normal to Needs Information from User.Sep 11 2017, 9:06 AM

Restarting my computer solved the issue. Never mind.

Joshua Leung (aligorith) claimed this task.

Thanks! We can close this now :)
