Hello, I noticed this was posted as resolved when I just came across the same exact crash today 1-2-2018

System Information
Windows 10 Home, 64-bit
GPU: AMD r9 Fury

Blender Version
Broken: Blender 2.79

Short description of error

Made a cylinder. Decided to separate a circle from the cylinder. Pressed P - > Separate by selection.
Used grid fill on the circle.
Wanted to make more vertices to play with so I used the knife tool. When pressing enter to apply the knife, it crashed to desktop.
This kept happening when I reopened it and tried again.

However, when I saved the file AFTER doing the grid fill and restarting blender, the crash didn't happen anymore.
So I decided to attach the file BEFORE doing the grid fill to show how the error happened.

@Pepper (pepper), I can't redo the issue. Quite sure this bug has been fixed - please confirm this works in one of our daily builds: https://builder.blender.org/download

Hello! Thank you for getting back to me.
I'm using 2.79 hash: 5bd8ac9 This is the latest Steam version. My apologies if steam uses a different version. I should have mentioned it was the steam version. Sorry!

I just downloaded 2.79 hash: 25418be and tried the problem and there was no crash. You're right, it's fixed in the newest version from the website.

Sorry about that. Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly.
