System Information
Windows 10 Pro Version 1703, 64-bit
AMD Radeon R9 270x
Blender Version
Broken: 2.79/2.80 (beta build)
Works: Everything before 2.79, but GPU is not supported in Cycles in any of those that I tested.
Short description of error
I'm completely new to blender so it was my first installation. When I try to open
When I try to open 2.79, the command prompt opens and it says: .... UpdateDeviceParams: Failed to set 48000hz, got 44100hz instead; and below that: found bundled python: C:...
Then it opens up but I just get a white screen. I also tried adding opengl32.dll to the directory as it was mentioned here https://developer.blender.org/T37027, when doing so it opens up but is very laggy and when I choose Cycles in the top navigation bar I cant choose the GPU as a device.
In version 2.80 I get a blank screen too and when adding opengl32.dll I get the error "Win32 Error# (0): The operation completed successfully." in the command prompt 7 times and a little windows pops up saying: Blender requires a graphics diver with at least OpenGL 3.3 support.
I guess it has something to do with mym drivers because as far as I know my GPU supports OpenGL 4.6, but I dont know how to fix the problem.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

Since Blender opens up with adding the
opengl32.dll
to the install / unpacked folder it points out to a GPU/driver issue. The file itself sets Blender working in software mode - which means that everything is done through the CPU instead of the graphic card which explains why is slow. It is used not as solution to the issue, but as a debugging tool - to check if the issue itself is in Blender itself or in the GPU.Concerning the 2.80 issue it is still a work in progress as it is still early in development.
Please try updating your GPU drivers or if you on the latest one find an older version that works.
Marking as incomplete until additional information is given.
I tried downloading all the versions that I found here http://support.amd.com/de-de/download/desktop?os=Windows%2010%20-%2064 but it doesnt seem to work , I tried all the downloads under "features" and those under "optional downloads" too. :(
Ok, I just updated my windows and now its not lagging anymore in the viewport. :)) But I still cant choose my GPU in Cycles
From [Blender 2.79]] we only support graphics cards with GCN architecture 2.0 and above. To make sure your GPU is supported checkout this [ https:*en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units | Wikipedia page.
Sorry for the inconvenience. You can look at #52752 for example.
If you are trying GPU drivers please don't forget to remove the
opengl32.dll
from the Blender install folder. Please can you tell us if the white screen issue is solved?
Yes, you may, thank you.

Hi there, I had the same problem using version 2.79 on my new laptop. I added the openg132.dll to the folder and now it opens, but it is lagging a good bit. I don't really understand how graphics cards work so I wasn't sure what to look up on that wiki page (sorry!!) but I have the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti GPU... anyone know how I can improve the speed? Sorry about the silly questions and thanks in advance! :)
Adding the
opengl32.dll
is not the solution, just a way of checking out if the error is in Blender or elsewhere usually the GPU/driver side. Since Blender starts, try update / or find a driver version that works with Blender. Use drivers from the Nvidia site or if there are any updates for Windows that may solve the issue.
