Material combination causing crash on CPU render or CUDA error on GPU render with modifier index offset
Closed, ResolvedPublic

System Information

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79.4 d1be30f
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When using for example, solidify modifier material index offset, and combining subsurface scattering and volume emission, either blender crashes on CPU render, or CUDA error on GPU. Attached is output from terminal with --factory-startup --debug-cycles arguments.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Most reliable seems to be preview render, adjust the SSS texture blur in attached file. Crash on CPU or error on GPU is almost instant in every case.

Event Timeline

Downloaded the file; no crashes for me...

Win 10, GTX 970, newest drivers

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) lowered the priority of this task from Needs Triage by Developer to Confirmed, Medium.

I can confirm a crash (only on adjusting the 'SSS Texture Blur')
