System Information
Operating system and graphics card
OS-navn Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64 bit
Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299
GeForce GTX 970
system-info.txt

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79b f4dc9f9d68

Short description of error
Object color controlled by material node where normalized object position feeds into a color range which then controls a principled BSDF node.

Error: Material 3D view correctly displays and updates color when object is moved. Rendered view does not.
renderview-materialview-differentcolor.png

Partial fix: add a Value node as input to color ramp node. Then the material 3D view and rendered view show same color. However color is not longer controlled by position as intended.
renderview-materialview-samecolor.png

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Load attached blender file.rendercolorproblem.blend
  2. Move object in Material 3D view in z-direction. Observe how color changes in materials view but not in rendered view.
  3. Apply partial fix by replacing input to color ramp node to a Value input node with default value of 0.5. Observe how colors are the same in rendered view and material 3D view but independent of position.

Are these knownmax and knownmin Value Nodes custom Nodes?
(because when I open your file these are unconnected, have different values [compared to your screenshot] and I wouldnt know how to rename the sockets of a Value node like this...)

Anyways, when I reconnect them and put in the values you suggest, I everything seems to work as expected (both Material and Cycles rendered View change colors to Z position accordingly).

Could you try above .blend and see if it works for you?

Marking as incomplete for the time being...
