Not sure what the status of OpenCL on Intel is, officially there is only support for AMD/NVidia cards afaik , see the manual

However, you could try your luck following something like

quoting from above:

Activate OpenCL rendering
For AMD cards on Windows and Linux you just need to select your GPU under file -> user preferences -> system. The split kernel will be used by default to give the best performance.
To use OpenCL on other platforms, launch Blender with --debug-value 256 (either on the command line or by adding it to your shortcut). It will add a section "debug" in the render options panel.
There you can choose the kernel (split or mega) and the platform (set to "all" to enable OpenCL for Intel and NVidia).
Then choose GPU as the device to render in the render option panel.

But generally speaking, this is not a bug, just something that is not officially supported (see e.g. #47801 as well)

Thank you for your response Philipp. I'm new to Blender and 3d design stuff. So what are my options? I hadn't known, and ended up buying some expensive plugins only to discover this doesn't work with my machine.

The workaround didn't work for me at all. Maybe this pc is just too old?

Does only the GPU have to be AMD/Nvidia? Or both the CPU and GPU? Wondering then therefore what kind of computer is needed to run this. Wouldn't want to buy a new PC only to find out it's also not compatible. I'm not as techy as some here, so please excuse.

You don't need a gpu to render, you can just render on the CPU, the images will come out looking identical. It's not like the G41 would speed things up if it had worked, it's a really really really bad gpu.

$75 gtx 1030 is 3000% faster than the G41

Thanks @LazyDodo I can only use certain cards because it's an old PC. I did find a EVGA GeForce GT 730 on NewEgg in my range to swap out. Wondering if that will be compatible with Blender. I'm not very technical so how do I find out? I think the only ones that are going to fit in my PC (old dell 830) is GeForce 740, 730, and maybe 720.

What I was hoping to fix is the ability to actually use Materials preview mode, and viewport previewing. Right now it appears to be only orange and black, and I noticed also this issue where my GPU isn't showing up- and I don't know if they're related.

That's unrelated, the cycles compute device is only relevant to rendering with cycles, it has no effect on the material preview mode. That being said, this is turning into a general support issue, this website is for tracking bugs, may i suggest seeking help on either of these two sites instead?
