Short description of error
when apply solidfy modifier with vertex group to limit effect, excluded poligons show strange triangle shade
even though mesh are not connected.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps
2 Keep Edit mode, add "UV sphere" then set smooth about sphere faces.
3 So there is "one obj" (cube and sphere are separated )
4 in edit mode, make vertex group which only include "sphere part", then name as "thick"
5 turn object mode, apply "solidfy modifer" but only apply for sphere by set vertex group "thick"
6 apply SSS shader for this obj mat.
7 now strange dark triangle show about cube mesh, and change color too dark, which excluded from solidfy by vertex group.
recirculate normal, or manually adjust normal can not remove this problem untill i clear vertex group limit,
or remove SSS shader. This only happen, when I use SSS cycles shader.
same problem happen about principled bsdf SSS too.

The solidify modifier generates two cubes with in the exact same places with normals pointing in opposite directions. Cycles then can't properly detect inside and outside, which I don't consider a bug, we don't support rendering with coincident faces.
It would be good to improve the solidify modifier so that it generates better geometry in such cases, but I consider that more of an improvement for the future than a bug.
