Recently the Weight Paint Mode got an update with the Weight Overlay method. Instead of overlaying the weights they are multiplied when using the slider. When they should be flat shaded, the user can instead switch the shading mode to flat and the same result is achieved.

This should also be the case for painting in Vertex Paint & Texture Paint. Especially in Vertex Paint Mode it is incredibly hard to paint accurate colors when you have to always chose if you want to see the shading or the color information.

Yes, I agree with this. It should be consistent. Just like Weight Paint mode now respects the lighting settings in the Shading popover, so should Texture Paint and Vertex Paint mode.

That's the nice thing about the fact that we have a 'flat lighting' setting at all - it means that we can display these things with or without flat lighting.

@Julien Kaspar (JulienKaspar), for texture paint see my comment in D3770: Texture Paint: multiply texture paint overlay.

Do you think the texture paint overlay is useful at all? Is there a reason you would not just set color to Texture in solid mode, and disable the overlay?
