Event Timeline

I think this the same issue as T57296: Blender 2.8 crash on startup on Linux, assuming that earlier 2.8 builds did work.

The latest NVIDIA drivers for this graphics card are 342 from 2016 unfortunately, so we'll need a workaround for the bug in these old drivers.

System Information
Windows 10 Home 64-bit, GeForce 9600 GS 768MB (NVIDIA driver 342.01, which is the latest available for this card)
OS up to date.

I'm also having that same problem again. Once this problem was fixed (T55722), 6f42eb245b1 from 2018-09-27 is working fine for me, but 3f3eae675aa from 2018-10-16 and later does crash on startup.
--factory-startup does not fix it
--debug-gpu does not fix it

Right, that console log has the same error messages as T57296: Blender 2.8 crash on startup on Linux, so it's the same bug.
