When you select a sequence of images in the node of sequence of images to put an animated texture, although this checked the box of relative routes, the node has configured the absolute route, the first time it doesn't even ask if you're going to want it relative. You can check by selecting the node and pressing the key N and in the properties in Source this the absolute set route.

I can't reproduce the problem.

  • Did you save the .blend file before loading the images?
  • If so, at which location is the .blend file saved?
  • Through which button in the UI are you loading the image?

Did you save the .blend file before loading the images?
Yes

If so, at which location is the .blend file saved?
/Users/EDICION5/Desktop/testRelativePathBug/

Through which button in the UI are you loading the image?

all the steps I take:
01 Save the scene.

02 select diffuse node and press ctrl + t for create structure nodes with node wrangler

03 delete image texture

04 add image sequence node
at this moment I open the file browser without relative path option

05 I search and select all frames with the a key

06 and click in button Import Image Sequence
my node is in absolute path now

07 click in x for unlink datablock image

08 I press the open button again
at this moment if the relative path and detect sequences checkbox appears, both are activated by default

09 I search and select all frames with the a key

10 and click in button Open Image
my node is in absolute path now

Ok, that sounds like an issue in the Node Wrangler addon.
