Crash after closing settings, maximizing after minimizing or tabbing out->in again (likely graphics tablet related) #57772

System Information
AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB ram
Windows 7 64bit
Nvidia GTX 1060 6gb (driver version 416.34)
Graphics tablet XP-Pen Artist 15.6, newest driver

Blender Version
2.79b

Short description of error
Blender starts normally, everything seems to work flawlessly.
But closing the preference window, alt-tabbing out and in again or minimizing and maximizing Blender just silently crashes it (no messages or similar, it just vanishes).

After researching this issue i found a bug report that mentioned removing WinTab32.dll from System32 as it may be related to graphic tablet drivers and reactivating a window context or something like that. It sounded plausable and it does indeed work, but prevents me from working with the tablet correctly.

We indeed have similar reports, see #45422, #44626, #48522.
All were closed, not sure if we have more means to resolve since then?

@Sergey, assigning to you, if there is nothing to be done from our side we can close...?

Realistically, not much we can do here apart from suggesting checking on a newer drivers on the tablet vendor website (and never rely on windows update to take care of drivers).

While this is a real issue, it is only happening to a few people so far. And to troubleshoot it developers needs to have direct access to hardware. And even then it is not clear whether it's a solvable problem from our side...

So thanks for the report, but doesn't currently looking like we can solve this driver issue :(

The interesting thing is, though, that blender does start and work even with the tablet, but only until the window is moved into the background and foreground again where it crashes.

I have same problem deleting WinTab32 works but I am unable to use my tablet then. I dont use tablet in blender that much so maybe is there a way I can disallow blender from accessing WinTab32.dll but allow my tablets driver to use it. I will try updating the tablet driver now.
btw
Windows 10
XP-Pen Deco 03

Yes, it is not a blender problem. It fixed for me after updating the drivers. It was good i cleaned a lot of stuff from my pc today hehe.
