blender-2.79-89c2ff31d93 from official build rB89c2ff31d93

Error description:
Blender crashes when opening a recent blend file and then creating a new one.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
(It crashes no matter what .blend file I open)

  1. Open Blender.app (Almost any 2.79 master build)
  2. From 'File > Open...' open a 2.79b file
  3. Now that your file is open, go 'File > New'.
  4. Blender will ask: 'Reload Start-up file?'; select 'Yes'.
  5. Blender will no longer respond...

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) triaged this task as Needs Information from User priority.

Cannot confirm here (linux), needs further investigation.

  • Does this happen when you File > Load Factory Settings prior to step 2. ?
  • Does this also happen when you load a file that was created in that particular version of blender?
  • Does this happen with 2.79b as well?

Marking as incomplete until we have tried that.

  1. Yes, this does happen loading factory settings prior step 2.
  2. No, it load files from that version fine, but crashes when opening my 2.79b files
  3. No, 2.79b is my stable daily basis and do not crashes

OK, some more information given here, needs a second look...

Bastien Montagne (mont29) triaged this task as Needs Information from User priority.

Do you have UI translation enabled, and if so, 'New Data' option enabled?

And does it still happen with latest build (since the data translation issue has been fixed now)?

Can you please try again with latest build, as requested? thanks.

Blender 2.79 macOS 64 bit 6e2d9ef2db3 on December 14 still crashing

Bastien Montagne (mont29) raised the priority of this task from Needs Information from User to Normal.

then am clueless, we need some OSX guy I guess, @Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) maybe?

Can confirm on 4e3562f45ad on 10.14, but it seems to depend on the particular file. This is a relatively recent problem I think, because I did not run into this issue on master 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Here are two files that do and do not trigger this bug on my machine:

It's not just new files, however: opening crash_on_newfile.blend and then trying to load any other file (including reverting crash_on_newfile) will cause blender to freeze.

Here's another file that does it:

It only happens on master, however, d542e55b096. 2.80 can load new files just fine on afc4cd1e678.

It appears to be a deadlock in Blender Internal preview rendering. Even an F12 render seems to hang.

Devena Turquí (devenaturqui) renamed this task from Creating a new file after opening a recent file crashes Blender on macOS 10.14 to New 2.79 builds from Master freezes when opening a 2.79b file and then Creating a New File.

This started happening with the latest external libraries upgrade. rB0276e0e7de4a: Build: update for new macOS libraries.

It's not clear to me if it's a problem in any of the libraries, or an existing bug that got exposed.

The latest external libraries are used in 2.8 beta too? because this doesn't happen in 2.8
