Blender Version
Broken: 96e39af9481

Short description of error
When using the "Object Types Visibility" Menu in the 3D View header to disable the visibility for Empties, any duplication collection that is applied is not hidden. Only the empty itself is.
When trying to select the empty anyway with box select, Blender crashes.

Not sure I understand correctly:

any duplication collection that is applied

you mean an collection instance? I've tried putting an empty in its own collection, made an instance of that collection and toggling visibility seems to work...
Also duplicating that collection (and hiding emties) seems to works as well...

I might be missing/misunderstanding something. Maybe you can share a blend?

Sorry. I meant having a collection with one ore multiple objects (other than empties) in it. That way the objects that are used as an instance are still visible even when empties are set to be hidden. I guess I didn't say "instance" because that term is not used in the properties editor.

Ah, OK.
(was using the term "Instance" because that's how it's called when you do a RMB on the collection in the outliner: "Instance to Scene")

Anyways, cant seem to get it to crash (if I understood correctly now ;)).
Try the following blend (two instances from the default collection -- one doing it via empty and setting its Duplication to "Collection" manually, one with RMB in Outliner "Instance to Scene" [which should be the exact same thing, just did this to make sure there is no hidden bug somewhere]):

No crash trying to select them

Does this crash for you?

I tried it out after updating Blender again this morning. It seems to work fine now.
