Rip Region tool is unpredictable
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).
Don't know which face/vertex it will rip from selected vert

Could you please make a short video or screenshot that shows the problem? Maybe it is also related to T57770.

you just don't know which side of the face or which vertex its going to rip.
or am I using it wrong.

I don't know either, never used the tool. Maybe @Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) can quickly check if the tool behaves as expected.

However it would still be useful if you could come up with one specific case where the tool is unpredictable.

This is working as intended, in that there are rules for ripping that aren't broken/buggy.

Although the cases you've found are situations where the logic isn't as obvious.

When there is a partial rip along the corner, the method used will try to rip off two faces.
This is because ripping away edge loops is more common then ripping individual face corners.
