Application keeps crashing
Closed, ArchivedPublic

System Information
Operating system: KDE Neon 5.14; Intel i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz; 16G DDR4 Ram
Graphics card: GT218 [GeForce 210]

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80-0f5b53ba4dc

Short description of error
This is a second build I downloaded. The first one, 2.80-a421cfa8d31, and the version mentioned above, are behave the same way on my system. The movements are jagged and the program keeps crashing.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
For the jagged movements: as soon as I start the program, with the splash screen. I maximize the application and you can see the window enlarging in steps instead of it maximizing smoothly. When I select anything, it doesn't always happen immediately, I wait a second or two to work.

For the crashes: When I'm going through the preferences, themes, the application crashes after a few changes to the theme presets and the application crashes.

I have 2.79b installed as well and have no problems with that version

Event Timeline

The GeForce 210 seems to be quite an old card and was discontinued by NVidia (it's from 2009, that's nearly 10 years!).
It however does say it supports OpenGL 3.3, which is the minimum requirement for Blender 2.80.
I'm not entirely sure what the problem could be.
Did you check if the drivers are up to date?

Does it crash always when clicking a specific thing, like a button, drop-down list or menu? Or eventually after clicking 5 buttons, it crashes?

Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) triaged this task as Normal priority.

I'm guessing that the GPU driver are old and buggy. The must have not seen any updates for a very long time at least.
I don't know if there is much to do here.

What do you think @Clément Foucault (fclem) ?

Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) closed this task as Archived.

Closing because no further information was provided, and because this may have been fixed since the report.
