Blender Version

Short description of error
EEVEE - Material Index is missing from the materials menu

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open default blender
  2. Set renderer to cycles
  3. click on default cube
  4. go into material tab
  5. under settings, notice how pass index for the material is there
  6. switch renderer to eevee
  7. switch back to the materials tab
  8. notice how pass index is not there

Setting the pass index from cycles will influence eevee, there is just no way of changing it (outside of python) inside of eevee mode.

Could you share a file in eevee where material index is used?
The compositing pass Material Index is not supported for EEVEE.

Actually the Material Index is supported... It just isnt exposed to the UI.

PLease find attached a simple file which shows that cycles and EEVEE both using the material index.

The changes in cycles seems to indeed affect the eevee render.

Ah alright. I thought you were talking about the compositing nodes, not material nodes. Fixed now.
