System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 530

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80 Beta
(example: 2.79b release)
(example: 2.80, edbf15d3c0, blender2.8, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Selecting multiple objects in select box mode not working as expected. It can only select object with origin mark and maximum of 2 objects on the default startup screen.

Note: Blender version 2.79 is still installed.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

A. Default startup

  1. Open blender.exe from its installation directory. In this case, it is under C:/Program Files/blender-2.80/
  2. After fully opened, left click - hold and drag cursor over all default objects.
  3. It is only selecting 2 objects in max.

B. Custom blend file
bug_report.blend

  1. Download the attached bug_report.blend
  2. Open it using blender 2.80
  3. In select box mode, drag select all objects by left mouse button.
  4. It will only select on object which have the origin mark visible and ignore all other objects.
  5. Left mouse button drag select another or two objects which don't have origin mark visible and they won't be selected, because it is only working on the object that has origin mark visible.
  6. Move the origin to another object by left click select, and select other objects using left mouse button drag select, and it won't select them.

I cannot reproduce this on Linux. All objects seem selectable.

I wonder if this is a picking issue.
Does turning on OpenGL Depth Picking help? ( Preferences -> System -> General )
Or changing the Selection method from Automatic to something else?

No, it is not. Even worse, it won't select anything when the Selection method is changed to OpenGL Select.

I can not reproduce this either on my end.

Could you try updating you GPU drivers and also try the latest blender beta version and see if that helps?

Does it work if you download this dll and copy it so its located in the same directory as 'blender.exe' and run Blender normally?

Does it work if you download [this dll ](https://download.blender.org/opengl/software-emulation/windows64/opengl32.dll) and copy it so its located in the same directory as 'blender.exe' and run Blender normally?

It slow down blender and make it not responding.

And you are using the latest drivers from here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers ?
Be sure to remove that .dll file not that you have tested with it btw.

I see no more subject opened for this problem and all mine closed of course. and always the same answers. be more specific. I can't reproduce...but it's working under 2.79. and under 2.8 all selection working exept the select box to add more object that the first one and the lamp. it's a strange bug isn't? and it's working when all origins enabled. so if it's a problem of Open GL depth picking why it's the hell it's working in other situations?

I also have this exact same issue, I've posted a gif here ( https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/137224/can-not-get-selection-box-selecting-more-than-one-object-in-blender-2-8 ) which may show the issue in action. I'm not sure how to further diagnose. Sorry to revive an old task but this seems to have fallen by the wayside.

It seems I got this bug on an Intel HD 4000. Maybe I can add some further information:

In Blender 2.80 freshly installed from Blender.org to said Intel HD 4000 desktop machine, both box and direct click selection work ok for meshes (triangles), but behave erratically on a group of empties (possibly because they lack geometry?).

Sometimes, none are selected (even if the box encompasses all protrusions of the empty), sometimes all of them (even those clear away from the box). The direction of the viewport seemingly affect the "selectability" of the empties. Click to select almost never works (but sometimes it does).

The file came from 2.79c, but both tools work as expected in my Nvidia GTX 1070 notebook ?, in the very same file.

I've tried to change Edit > Preferences > Viewport > Selection > OpenGL Depth Picking both on and off, to no avail.
