Name of the folder was changed to new folder and all the files are inside it but will not work with 2.8 or 2.79... The program starts and then crashes instantly...

Deleting the older version and then installing a new one, then dragging and dropping the file into it worked. Crash happens when i try to start the project with double clicking on blend file. Starting the latest work from list works. A few strange things happened. After dragging the newly renamed new folder (not renamed by me ) from its location to desktop, the contents of it ( 10 blender files ) mixed with an existing new folder containing only pictures. None of the files seem to be lost from either folder and when dragged, the system didnt seem to recognize that the folders were named the same and just combined them without asking if i wanted them overwritten... Files contained in this folder work, provided that they are started in the way described on the start of this comment...

Files saved in Blender 2.8 generally can't be opened in 2.79. If you double click files, they will be opened by 2.79 and as a result may crash. You indeed have to open them from inside Blender 2.8 to avoid that.

Further, if you rename folders Blender will not longer be able to find the files. That is also not a bug.

Further I can't see any bug for us to fix here. If you still think there is a bug, you need to provide exact steps for us to redo the problem, otherwise we can't investigate it.

Folder was renamed by blender, it was called ZaKevra and then it was renamed into new folder. Its location has not changed, it has not made any changes to number of files inside it. It was not able to recognize them even when started from inside the older version of 2.8. The problem was solved by deleting that version and adding a new one. To summarize:

  1. Program was closed
  2. After starting it again it could not find the files (Computer was not rebooted during the period between those two sections )
  3. After some digging it i found out that the name of the folder was changed ( i have not changed it myself, contents stayed the same )
  4. After trying to drag open files in started blender (2.8-0fe5a789837-win64) they would not load.
  5. After deleting it and installing the new version (2.80-60b930af3e73-win64) it finally worked.

The problem is that BLENDER RENAMED FOLDER by itself
Version used: blender-2.80-0fe5a789837-win64
Current version: blender-2.80-60b930af3e73-win64

We need steps to reproduce that problem, how you can get Blender to rename a folder by itself. Otherwise we can't investigate the problem. It's somewhat unlikely that Blender would have a bug like this and difficult to guess how it might happen if it does.

I think that the original bug occurred when i went from modeling to sculpt window and from texturing to modeling window. After these the engine (eevee) didnt also seem to recognize the textures on the other mashes ( a wall with a picture on it that was used to recreate the model i was working on) Sorry i cant give any more info then that, i am puzzled as well. If you would like to inspect the files them self, give me the email and i will send them via wetransfer...

Absolutely unsure how to recreate this problem but I can confirm that it happened to me, and it was blender that did it, It randomly renamed my folder (thanks to this thread i found it, because I thought it had deleted it too) to "New Folder" and immediately crashed, this was while doing basic modeling in edit mode.

this was the December 27th version: blender-2.80.0- 0661bcba3210-windows64

Good, so i am not the only one! Uninstalling the old version and installing the new one did it for me. Also renamed the folder to its original name...

Same thing happened to me when switching to the shading tab, blender 2.8 suddenly crashed. I uninstalled blender 2.8 and some of my blend files and folders disappeared.
