Can not reproduce.

Can you try latest build to confirm?

I made a new file from scratch in -4b7596ec914e- and it's not just the text strip that caused the crash but a camera keyframe bind:

Oh got it now.

Depshraph attempted to freed cache.
Got this covered.

Richard Antalik (ISS) triaged this task as Confirmed, Medium priority.

Sorry for noise.

Polit nudge
It still crashes in -855b3e68ef27-
FYI: I use one of my production files for this test and a camera bind is at the beginning, so when this is fixed I will be able to continue rendering out the project and possibly find more bugs.

Problem is that I can fix this as a side effect by D3934: VSE cache with frame prefetching (WIP)
I waiting for design review. Will try to push this, but it's still not 100% done from my side.

Will a binary of Blender with this patch applied help?

Yes, try putting it on http://graphicall.org/ as said in D3934#89291
