Blender Version
Broken: Blender 2.8, 2019-01-17
(example: 2.79b release)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Default startup.

  • Select the “General” option in the “New” tab.
  • Once cube loads, select “LookDev” mode. (It takes awhile to load this option, once loaded, cube is black)
  • Once in “LookDev” mode, select the “Material” tab in the toolbar in right side of page.
  • In the “Material” tab, “Use Node” is on, Surface is set to “Principled BSDF”, followed by “GGX” and “Christensen-Burley”.
  • Select a different color in the “Base Color” option, and no matter what color you select, the cube continues to remain black.

Can you start Blender using a terminal with the --debug --debug-gpu options and post the output here?

JacquesLucke - I am seeing this myself. Here is my information:

System Information
Operating system: Mac OS 10.14.3
Graphics card: Intel UHD 630, Preferred EGPU: AMD Radeon RX580 (via Sonnet eGFX Breakaway box)

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80, faa255c0a4, 2019-02-15

As smwalton said, changing the base color - or any other attribute - of a material does not change the object in LookDev or Rendered mode. I have found two workarounds: First, perform any action - even a simple 'move' - then undo the action. The material will now appear correctly. Second, I use the "Create New Material" button next to the Material's name field. This creates a new material, which displays correctly on the object in the viewport. I've captured the debug output requested above, as this seems to be the same problem.

Edit to attach correct log file. This shows changing the base color of the default cube in Render view (no effect), moving the cube, then undoing the move (color now visible).

Can any of you guys check if this is still a problem with the latest OSX version?

This appears to be working in the latest OSX 2.8 Beta build.
